When you receive flowers, a little bit of care will extend the vase life of your flowers quite considerably.

Hand Tied Bouquets

Do not remove the tying string from the bouquet as no further arranging is necessary.

Remove any water sources from the stems, i.e. water sachet, water filled cellophane, wet tissue wrap.

With a sharp knife cut one to two centimetres off stems at an angle.

Place into a container with luke warm water and add floral preservative sachet.

Place in a cool position away from draughts, sun and ripening fruit.

Change water every 2 - 3 days.

Arrangements

When you receive an arrangement it has been made with water retaining foam in a container. Add water daily and extend the life of your arrangement.

More hints to make your New Zealand flowers last longer

Roses – if your roses droop, recut stems and put them into quite warm water for a short period of time. This will force the water past any airlocks up the stem and to the bud.

Carnations – are very sensitive to ethylene, so keep away from fruit.

Chrysanthemums – remove any wilting or damaged buds, this will keep the rest of the flowers heads looking great.

Gerberas – do not overfill your vase, quite a low level of water is preferred.

Lisianthus – remove old heads to assist the new buds to open.

Tulips – Tulips keep growing in the vase and tend to curve into different directions. If you would like to keep them straight cross cut the stems.
