How to choose the perfect vase for fresh flowers

Despite the variety of reasons for being given flowers, many recipients ask the same question, ‘What shall I put them in?’. The temptation is to use the nearest and most accessible vase to hand, but we urge you not to! Read on to learn how to choose the perfect vase for your bouquet.

Just as flowers are visually diverse, so are the best vases to use. The long-stemmed elegance of gladioli, lilies and sunflowers are complemented by the structure and control of a column vase. Whereas the shorter-stemmed large headed flowers of roses, hydrangea and peonies suit the voluptuous shape of an hour-glass vase. Too wide and it won’t give the stems adequate support and you risk losing the shape of the arrangement. Sometimes we have things in our homes that are not the most fashionable or follow any rule in an interior style bible, but we just love them, and do you know what? They are often the most precious items we own.
