Our Story: Christchurch's Trusted Florist Since 1937

For over 85 years, Court Florist has been woven into the fabric of Christchurch life—celebrating your milestones, brightening your days, and helping you express what words alone cannot. This isn't just a business; it's a legacy.

Decades of Blooming History

Our story began in 1937 when local florist Mr. Hopkins founded the business in Hereford Court. With the dedication of his wife, they nurtured the shop's reputation for quality flowers for four decades. The legacy continued through dedicated ownership:

1973

The shop was acquired by Lee Craddock, who steered its growth for 15 years. Whilst renovations took place the shop relocated from Hereford Court in 1985 to temporary premises near the Christchurch Square and then back to the newly updated Whitcoulls Arcade on Hereford Street. In this prime street-side location our shop became renowned for its innovative window displays and floral creativity.

1988

Restaurant entrepreneur Doris Gräbner took the reins. The shop relocated to Shades Arcade in 1995 where it stayed until 2007. Driven by her inspiration and talent, Doris developed Court Florist into the modern and successful business it is today, operating from various central city locations, including the Christchurch Arts Centre and, following the 2011 earthquake, settling into our current home on Victoria Street.

2018

The shop was acquired by Tracey Tyler who invested six years building upon this rich history. During her tenure she updated the shops operational and accounting systems and expanded the homeware range to reflect the discerning tastes of our customers.

The Next Chapter: Passion, Commitment & Expertise

The torch was then passed in 2023 to current owners, Kristine Durie and Vicki Ryder.

Kristine and Vicki are uniquely committed to the shop's heritage, having worked here since 1984 and 1990, respectively. Their combined decades of experience mean they deeply understand the goodwill and customer loyalty that have kept Court Florist at the floral forefront for over 85 years.
